MOVEMENT ADVANCED MOVEMENT CHICKENING GET UPS

MOVEMENT
There are numerous ways to coming out victorious in Tekken Tag. No matter what that strategy is, they all take practice. In time I will get up my strategy section and discuss the many techniques of Tekken: chickening, tech rolling, escapes, advanced movement, etc
BASICS For you all you beginners out there, start with the basics. All the small details of the game can make a big difference in winning or losing.

Sidestepping:
You can do the sidestep by tapping up or down on the joystick. It will move you towards or away from the screen. Sidestepping is very essential in TTT. There are many stratagies for it. Although, some characters are too large and aren't very good with the sidestep. Small characters are better off with the sidestep. Here are some rules that you should take into consideration when using the sidestep.

Some rules:
1.) You are vulnerable to an attack if you sidestep. Your oppenent will try to take the advantage to throw in a power move or grab you. If you see the attack coming hold back during the sidestep motion. This is also called the Side Step Cancel: SS~B

2.) Always sidestep in the right direction. If your oppenent throws a right punch or kick and you sidestep to the right, you are still vulnerable to the attack. So, anticipate the move. If he/she throws a right, evade with a left: SSL. And yada yada yada, visa versa: oppentent throws left, evade with right: SSR

3.) Anticipate moves: A lot of players will try to get a quick power move at the start of the match. Instead of trying to beat them to the punch, wait for the right moment and Sidestep out of the way. This puts you in advantage and gives you the opportunity to grab them. You aren't garanteed a grab due to the fact that their move might put them out of range of reaching distance. Even so, this is a good stratagy.

Some stratagies:
1.) Sway to sidestep: This is a good way to get out of range and give yourself an advantage. Sway (discussed further down on this page)then sidestep. The completion would look like this: d,d/b,b,n,SSL_SSR. This is useful when fighting players who tackle like Paul, King, and Jin.

2.) To kill sidestep abusers: Some people constantly sidestep all the time (which is a good stratagy: discussed below). When they do so, a player often attacks without thought and leaves him/herself in a disadvantage to attack. Here are a few ways you could get past that.

1.) Tagslide: If it gets hard to attack b/c of their constant sidestepping use a tag slide. This accomplished by tagging out and sliding under your oppenent. After you tag out, keep your tagged player running till in sweeping range of your enemy and press 4. If your player has the ability, but I think most do press d/b+3 to sweep them before they can get up.

2.) Crosschop: A crosschop is achieved by pressing while pressing 1+2 while your player is running. To do this move tag out and keep your player running. After about 3 or 4 step you should have the ability to do the crosschop. This stratagy is only useful if, when your oppenent was sidestepping, they were at a far distance. They don't have to be sidestepping. It also works as a regular stratagy.

3.)Sidestep a lot: This is a good idea but tends to get some people annoyed. If you are moving a lot it will make it a lot harder for your oppenent to hit you. But remember, when you sidestep you leave yourself vulnerable. So cancel if you can. Otherwise, you might end up eating one of Paul's power moves or get rocketed into the air with Julia's skycannon.

4.)Be aware: Now that you know that you are vulnerable to attacks when you sidestep know what you can do:

  • 1: SS~B-Sidestep cancel and hold back to block an incoming attack.
  • 2: Come out of the sidestep in a crouch to duck a move.
  • 3: Sidestep opposite of their attack to evade their move.
  • Multiple Sidestepping:

    Multiple Sidestepping:
Some characters have this ability. It does not mean you have to tap up or down repeatedly. The characters that have this ability have input commands that are executed during the sidestep. In other words, a multiple sidestep makes the character go farther than a normal sidestep would. It also gives you a chance to get to the side of your opponent. Here are the commands for the characters which have this ability.
    BAEK: SSR,b+3
    HWOARANG: LFF,3+4,SSR orSSR,F+3orRFF,3+4,SSLorSSL,f,N+4
    LEI: SS,2+3or SS,1+4
    KING: SS,2+4
    JULIA: SSR,3+4
    MICHELLE: SSR,3+4
    YOSHIMITSU: b+3+4(x2)orSS,b+3+4

    ADVANCED MOVEMENT
This area covers all advanced movement in Tekken: Some are commonly used and some are difficult like the wavestep. These movements will help your evasive skill. If you have any others let me know.
Backflip: Backflips are basically executed by pressing u,u/b. The character will do a back handspring which only some characters can do. These characters include: Anna, Jun, Michelle, Nina, Xiaoyu, and Yoshi. Eddy's move is similar except that he ends up in handstand position: HSP.
Crouch Dash: This is useful for getting closer to your opponent and still being able to evade attack. The command: f,n,d,d/f Any high attack will not hit if you do the crouch dash. A good example of this is King's Standing Achilles Hold: f,n,d,d/f+2+3
Crouch Canceling: The crouch cancel is just another way to recover to standing position and is done by pressing f~f. Of course, you will need to be in a full crouch when doing so. You can also use a low parry to return to standing position.
Roll Dashing: This is the same as a crouch dash, besides the fact that you do not crouch before dashing. See CrouchDash section above. the command: d,d/f,f
Swaying: This motion is similar to the roll dash except you move backwards. Your character basically ducks while swaying backwards at the same time. This move can be used to avoid high attacks also. some characters incorporate the sway into their moves. For example, Paul uses this motion for certain moves: (qcb_d,d/b,b)3,2,2
Wave Step: This is the new technique that many Tekken players have been talking about. It is accomplished by repeating many crouch dash cancels. To crouch dash cancel press forward as soon as you execute the crouch dash command. It would look like this: f,n,d,d/f~f (REPEAT AS NEEDED). It will give the illusion that your character is moving up and down on water, which is where it got its name. Visa versa, you can also do the wave step by repeated sway cancels. the command: d,d/b,b~u (REPEAT AS NEEDED). This is one the most difficult techniques but it is possible to get many wave steps in a second. You may get players thumb... be careful.

NOTE:I have put up a lot of information but there is more to come. It is not completed so some of the links at the top of this page do not work. ~COMING SOON~
